South African Restaurants that serve Foie Gras

Many restaurants and delicatessens in South Africa continue to serve Foie Gras, with full knowledge of the cruelty it inflicts. Those listed have all been contacted and informed of the production method. With one or two exceptions, no response at all to requests to refrain from serving FG has been forthcoming.

Please help us continue to fight Foie Gras being served in South African restaurants by writing to these establishments and asking them to remove Foie Gras from their menus.

Thank you for taking the time to forward your email.  Duly noted.  While we do look forward to you gracing our establishment, could you please send necessary emails regarding hijackings, rape and township looting to the relevant parties.  Oh, … and not forgetting the potholes.

This sarcastic, unprofessional and downright rude (and illogical) response is unacceptable! Please do not support Le Canrad and better still, e-mail them and let them know why.

AS PER THEIR REQUEST we include this letter from them:
To whom it may concern, We have calculated that thus far to date, restaurants in Cape Town received postage from you to the value of R 35 000.00. This amount was spent on postage to “create awareness” as to your sentiments on the use of foie gras. As your postcards are not delivering information unknown to us, may we request that the postage spent on Ginja and Shoga Restaurants be donated to the SPCA. If you do still feel the need to deliver information to us, a hand-delivered letter, or even better still, a visit, will suffice. We would also like to request that this instruction is posted next to our name on your “Wall of Shame”.

NOTE: With regard to Ginja and Shoga
  • the general public have sent these postcards, not ourselves and therefore we have incurred no expense bar the printing of said cards,
  • by  their own acknowledgement, despite clear knowledge of the deliberate and intentional torture of these birds, as well as an obvious public unhappiness with the menu, the choice remains to continue serving Foie Gras
  • while serving up a dish that is the result of known suffering they would have that we donate funds to an animal welfare agency which has publically stated their vehement opposition to Foie Gras due to inherent cruelty
